Medicare in Indiana: What you Need to Know

If you have a Medicare in Indiana policy then chances are you already know that Medicare has several “gaps” in its coverage. Medicare simply does not cover everything that may be needed such as nursing homes, in home health care or even the hospital deductible which was over a $1000 last year and goes up every January. This is where a Medicare Supplemental policy comes in. Medicare Supplemental insurance which is also known as Medigap or Medicare Advantage is a type of insurance policy designed to cover the gaps left in the Medicare program for those with Medicare Part A or Medicare Part B insurance.  This type of insurance is not issued by the government although it is closely regulated by both federal and state laws. Because Medicare supplemental insurance is issued by private insurance companies it is best to spend a little time comparing prices. Each policy is exactly the same but may have a different cost from one company to another. A Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan can only be sold by an authorized insurance agent and there are 10 “standardized” types of Medigap policies to choose from. The policies are labeled the same as a Medicare policy by using letters A through L. One thing you should know about Medigap is that it has only a 6 month open window of enrollment. That means if you purchase your Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan policy within 6 months of being issued your Medicare policy you cannot be turned down for Medigap or Medicare Advantage plan and your premiums are guaranteed to remain low even if you have a serious health problem. Once the 6 months have passed however it is up to the insurance company on whether they accept you as a client and how much you will pay for the premiums. At Chambers Roper our agents will work with you to answer all of your important Medicare in Indiana questions to make sure that the insurance policy you purchase is the right policy to fit into your lifestyle and budget.  We are dedicated to helping Texas residents navigate the murky waters of the insurance industry so that they can obtain the right policy at the right price.
